MUMBAI: The Tanzanian, in custody for smuggling drugs, ejected 101 capsules of cocaine till Thursday night.
He is likely to be carrying more capsules in the abdomen as the doctor has not given him clearance, said Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials who intercepted Daziamani Msuku, along with an accomplice on Monday morning after they came from Addis Ababa.
Msuku’s accomplice died on Monday when he tried to escape and a capsule burst in his abdomen.
Doctors retrieved 120 capsules from his body.
AIU officials said Msuku may take a few days more depending on the number of capsules in his stomach.
“He claims that he does not know how many capsules he swallowed. He will be kept in hospital till the doctor feels the presence of foreign bodies in his stomach,” said a senior official.
Msuku and his accomplice, intercepted on specific intelligence, had denied carrying the drugs despite prolonged interrogation. Msuku admitted to carrying the capsules only when his accomplice died.
AIU officials said that the weight of the consignment could go up to 2.5kg with a market value of about Rs 10 crore. “Each capsule is likely to have a minimum 10gm cocaine. The consignment is huge and of heavy market value,” said an official. He said that since cocaine was an expensive and pure drug, smugglers use carriers to conceal it in the body.
“It is the value of the drug which makes them take such a huge risk,” he added.
Msuku will be booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
